Each FOAMTI certificate draws from multiple course categories, creating a holistic training experience that integrates biblical knowledge, spiritual formation, and practical ministry skills. Every certificate is completable in approximately 6 months, combining academic study with practical field experience through your church or sending partner.

Certificates build upon one another — starting with the Basic Missionary Training Certificate as the foundation, then advancing into deeper theological study, specialized ministry, or organizational leadership depending on your calling.

Certificate 1

Basic Missionary Training

Foundation-level training for new missionaries covering essential biblical knowledge, spiritual formation, evangelism, discipleship, and cross-cultural awareness. Start here. This is the recommended first certificate for all FOAMTI learners. The Level 1 certificate is intended as a 50/50 mix of practical training and academic study — each course normally completed in 1 week, with 10 weeks of classes and 10 weeks of practical training.
Certificate 2

Advanced Missionary Training

Builds on the Basic Certificate with deeper study in theology, missiology, church planting strategy, spiritual warfare, and advanced ministry skills. More complex theological engagement, ministry under pressure, and perseverance through suffering.
Certificate 3

Outreach to Muslims

Specialized training for missionaries working among Muslim populations — covering Islamic beliefs and practices, bridges for sharing the gospel, discipleship of Muslim-background believers, church planting in Muslim-majority communities, and navigating persecution and security. Formation emphasis: patience, love for those who may be hostile, and long-term faithfulness in difficult soil.
Certificate 4

Missional Leadership

Training for those called to lead missionary teams, churches, and sending organizations — covering servant leadership, team dynamics, conflict resolution, and organizational development. Formation emphasis: full deployment of leadership audits and ethical self-examination tools, stewardship of authority, and the character required to lead well under pressure.
Certificate 5

Operating an Indigenous Missionary Training & Sending Ministry

A specialized program for leaders of sending organizations — providing the framework and tools to recruit, train, send, and support indigenous missionaries. Formation emphasis: the character required to lead leaders, financial integrity at the organizational level, and the apostolic function of fathering and sending. Sending organizations should consider working through this certificate and the Missional Leadership Certificate as a team.
